BREAKING: Alaska Legislature Issuing Subpoenas in Troopergate

Andrew Halco, Alaskan blogger reports that the Alaska Legislature will issue subpoenas in Troopergate.

I won't be picking on the state of Alaska ever again because they seem to want to do things correctly.  They do not like looking like some backwater outpost that's ripe for a joke on Letterman, Leno or Jimmy Kimmel.

If you go to Halcro's site and those of Alaska's leading papers you will find a lot of folks willing to blow this off.  That's tragic in itself.  What they don't get that ethics violations call into question how a person will govern.

What?  They liked the last four years of the Bush admistration, one known for cronyism and bullying?

While Palin is the gift that keeps on giving, it points to a broader problem and pattern.  Where are the reasonable Republicans?  Has a decent GOPer such as Chuck Hagel become a dinosaur?

Apparently, because after that convention this week and word that the McCain campaign sought to slow the release of the Troopergate Report until after the election, I have to say I don't see a decent one left.

No such thing as a reasonable republican.

Never was, never will be.

Not helpful (2.00 / 2)

There are reasonable Republicans out there, and we want them to vote for Obama.

while i welcome the results of this... (2.00 / 2)

it seems like this may not be the best thing to politicize.  why?  i tend to think that most people would empathize with palin over a man that tasered a child, threatened her father and is generally not a nice guy.

while the above has no bearing on whether palin acted appropriately - im pretty sure that public at large wont care once they start to hear more about this guy.

Given the crowd she appeals to, you're probably correct.  However, any logically thinking person would have to view it as an abuse of power.

And before you say it, I'll agree with you, in the past eight years, logic has been on vacation in the political world the Bushes have created.

I am really ambivalent (none / 0)

about condoning unethical or illegal behavior under the rationale that the ends justify the means. Given the tasering of a child (amazingly heinous) and the threats, was there no legal recourse? There is also an emerging pattern of Palin's behavior that makes me question whether she even tried appropriate channels. I'm referring to the "tests of loyalty" and whatnot.

I'm getting to the point where I actually do trust Obama to win the election - and win it without us having to go through moral contortions for political purposes.

Re: while i welcome the results of this... (none / 0)

Personally, I empathize with the guy who actually lost his job, who was none of the above.

I have given the issue a test drive by explaining Palin's side of the story to my usual set of swing voters.  "There's more to the story," I would tell them, "the trooper she was trying to get fired was a bad guy who admitted to tasering his own stepson," and so on and so forth.  Doesn't seem to make any difference.  They still think it's not right.

You keep forgetting (2.00 / 2)

IOKIYAR...

The Evangelical community will just think it's the evil statanist hollywood elites trying to get their new female Ron Reagan...

But, hopefully, this can take the bloom of some of those folks in the midwest that may actually be buying this reformer crap-ola from Palin.

"Where are the reasonable Republicans?" (none / 0)

Right here

They're among the voters, mostly.

It's important to separate the politicians from the voters...
